(English) An open letter to the international community

The International information portal “Voice of the world” has got the information about the human rights violation.

The man sent a letter and told about his life situation. According to his letter:  «I am Mr. Adel Amin Tayeb BEN HAMLILI, former Guantanamo prisoner, and am writing to ask for an urgent help in order to find solutions to my very difficult and dire situation after having failed to contact UN offices via fax, snail mail, e-mail and DHL special mail. I have also mailed the UN Secretary General through the United Nations website, but unfortunately all these attempts did not succeed because of the intervention of United States authorities who prevented my mails from reaching him.

I am living in very difficult conditions because I have been refused the right to bring my wife and my children back from Pakistan to Algeria, I have been refused the right to have the money that was raised for me during my imprisonment in Guantanamo and put in a UBS account in Switzerland, and I have been refused the visa to go to Pakistan to see my wife and my children. My family, my wife and my children and other members in Pakistan, Great Britain and Mali, were prevented from gaining the Algerian citizenship by order of the French authorities. The Algerian authorities, by order of the French and American authorities have stopped me from contacting the Swiss bank UBS in order to get information about my account and the amount of money in it out of fear that the American CIA may demand my imprisonment in Guantanamo again because I was freed from it on bail. Now this money is under the control of the United Nations High Commission. However, I cannot have my money, now that I am free and am in need of it, because the aforementioned bank refuses to have contact with me except through the United Nations High Commission and this latter refuses to have contact with me except through a recognized and formal authority and via the media, conditions which are refused to me because of my former status of Guantanamo prisoner.

I hereby let you know that I have used all the legal means I possess to see my family that I did not see since 2003. I have even gone to foreign countries, such as Saudi Arabia and Germany to find solutions to my desperate situation without any success. It has to be noted that it was expected that the Swiss bank brought me my money back once I was freed from Guantanamo prison. I also let you know that am totally innocent of any criminal charges by virtue of the Algerian High Court decision, and you can verify this fact through the Algerian representative in the United Nations, though the American Courts still refuse to consider me as an innocent victim upon a baseless political and legal decision, and my attorneys, Clive and al., have refused to contact the United Nations on my behalf and give the Secretary General letters of mine under the pressure of United States authorities.

Finally, I would like to mention that many Algerian newspapers had interviews with me only to make money without conveying my worries to the authorities and parties that may be concerned by my case.»

Such a case is not isolated. Unfortunately, almost every former prisoner is restricted in human rights.
