Saleh Daher: The Destructive Influence of Racism on Modern Society

The topic of racism remains highly relevant in today’s world, as conflicts rooted in interethnic hatred have become increasingly frequent. Racism is a global issue that continues to impact societies across the globe.

Every problem requires a specific solution, but before addressing the issue, it is important to understand its true essence.

Racism arises from ignorance about the inherent nature of human beings. It is a product of straying from the true path of humanity, where individuals fail to reflect on improving themselves or the world around them. When a person’s perspective is limited and their actions are driven by distorted criteria, the result is the manifestation of evil—denying equality and hindering the development of all.

Racism involves assigning exaggerated significance to external traits, such as skin color, associating it with attributes like kindness, intelligence, and even a propensity for crime. This distortion leads to harmful stereotypes and discrimination.

It is also crucial to recognize the racism present in statements like, “This is not your country! Return to your historical homeland!” First, every nation has a history of conquest, and the original inhabitants of a place are not always clear-cut. Second, why should the current generation be held accountable for the actions of their ancestors? Third, people of various nationalities live in nearly every country today. When laws do not apply equally to all individuals, it can lead to unnecessary conflicts. Every person is entitled to inalienable rights, and forcing someone to abandon their property or leave their home simply because of their ethnicity is deeply unjust.

Sometimes, individuals may not even fully understand what racism is. Many people justify racist beliefs due to their religion or upbringing. Others may embrace racism simply because they want to conform to the majority without forming an independent opinion. In modern society, there are countless examples of such outside influences. One of the most prominent examples is how global corporations subtly impose these views through their advertising campaigns. Commercials often portray one race rising above others based on skin color, territorial origin, or religious grounds. By releasing such media to the public, these subtle messages begin to infiltrate people’s subconscious, making the manifestation of racism appear normal or acceptable.

The international organization “Shield” strongly condemns racism and religious intolerance, advocating for mutual respect among all nationalities. We must recognize that our differences should unite us, not divide us. True progress can only be achieved when individuals and societies embrace equality, respect, and understanding.
